6 Bedroom detached house Hadrians Drive, Milton Keynes £795,000

The unique property on Hadrians Drive offers exceptional versatility, with the options of a self-contained, two-bedroom flat set within the house or one spacious, six-bedroom home

The space, the potential and the superb location of the house on Hadrians Drive all appealed to the current owner when he first viewed it back in 1995. Since then, it has not only been a superb family home but has also offered all the versatility he and his wife were seeking. “We bought the house because it offered us all the room we needed at the time and we really liked the area. It was close to a large park – just a minute or two’s walk away,” he says. “It was originally a four-bedroom house, with an adjoining convenience store. We realised we could convert the shop into a large office for me and then later on decided to build the apartment above the office. It has worked very well for us over the years.”

NEW KITCHEN
Today, the ground floor of the main house offers generous living and working space. The front door opens into an entrance hall, leading to the kitchen, dining room and large drawing room, as well as a cloakroom. Having a separate kitchen and dining room always worked very well for the family but new owners could, of course, adapt the layout to suit their own requirements. “The kitchen is in the process of being refitted with Ohio cream units, a white sink, oak work surfaces and brass taps,” he says. “It will also have new cream wall and floor tiles – and it will look very appealing.”
FLEXIBLE LIVING
An internal door leads through to the former shop area, where there is now a sizeable office, an additional work or leisure space, a utility room and a ground-floor cloakroom. “This has worked very well for me as a work area for many years, but it could have all sorts of uses.” This part of the house could encompass additional living accommodation, a gym, a family room, a teenager’s den or a games room. If need be, it could be sectioned off from the rest of the house to offer enhanced privacy, as it has its own entrance. “It could be ideal as it is for someone else looking for office space or it could have another use altogether,” he emphasises.
POTENTIAL UPSTAIRS
Upstairs in the main part of the house, there are four bedrooms. The master bedroom is a particularly good size and benefits from an en suite shower room. The family bathroom is also at this level. “This part of the house offers excellent family accommodation but, of course, if someone wanted to, then they could open it up into the apartment to give themselves even more space,” he observes. “For a while, we did have a connecting door between the two parts of the house, but this has now been blocked off.”
ADDITIONAL SPACE
The apartment is a major feature of the property, bringing even more versatility to the home. This currently offers two additional bedrooms, a shower room, kitchen and separate sitting and dining room. “My daughter and her partner lived here for a while and so did my mother-in-law,” he explains. “It is ideal for anyone with extended family or it can be let out as it is completely separate from the rest of the house. But if you did want to bring it into the rest of the home to make it one large property for a big family, then this is fairly straightforward to do.” The garden has also complemented the house, offering superb, outdoor, relaxation and entertaining space. “There is plenty of space out there for people to sit; there is an area of decking and we have a barbecue and pool table too,” he says. “It has been wonderful in the summertime.”
OUT IN THE PARK
The proximity to North Loughton Valley Park has also been a great pleasure. “You can just walk straight out of the house for a short walk, just to get some fresh air, or you can wander for miles. It is such a big and beautiful park,” he says. The location of the house has also offered good access to local shops and supermarkets, as well as to central Milton Keynes, about 1.5 miles away. It takes just five to seven minutes to drive to the train station and from there it is easy to travel in London. “This house is very convenient for everything and is in a great location,” he adds. “I am moving now as I am relocating, but it could be ideal for someone else seeking to be within reach of everything they need, as well as great flexibility of living and working space.”
