5 Bedroom detached house Rhoscolyn Drive, Milton Keynes £625,000

The generous house at Rhoscolyn Drive, Tattenhoe, offers exceptionally versatile living, including the opportunity for independent living within a superb, self-contained annexe

The possibilities offered by the house on Rhoscolyn Drive are endless, especially for those seeking somewhere for multi-generational living. The current owner of the five-bedroom house in Tattenhoe has enjoyed its immense space and exceptional flexibility in numerous ways over the past 27 years that it has been his home. “Initially, we were looking for a house with an annexe as we wanted space for relatives to live with us,” he remembers. “This house was large enough to accommodate all of us very comfortably and it was also in a nice area, with a golf course across the road.”

ANNEXE LIVING
To begin with, the family arranged the house so that a generous section of its ground floor could be self-contained. Changes were made and extension work was carried out to ensure it met everyone’s needs for space and privacy. The annexe was designed to have its own entrance to the side of the house and to encompass a bedroom, sitting room, kitchen and wet room. Today there is also a utility room, which can be accessed externally as well. Over the years since then, the property has evolved to suit the changing requirements of those living there and today, it could suit owners with a range of potential uses.
GREAT FLEXIBILITY
The annexe could be retained to accommodate an elderly relative or grown-up child seeking independence while also wishing to remain part of the main home. Equally, this part of the building could be ideal for someone seeking space to work. “Because it has its own entrance, there are lots of possibilities,” he adds. New owners may wish to use the whole property as one home, rather than two. “There is access through to the rest of the house via the main kitchen,” the owner explains. “In recent times, we have not kept the annexe separate but have enjoyed it all as a single home. It has worked very well for us, especially when we have had family or friends visiting or staying.”
GARDEN VIEWS
The property, which is set on a cul-de-sac, sits back from the road, with a large driveway, garden and double garage to the front. It is entered via a covered porch and reception hall, with access to a ground-floor cloakroom. The capacious sitting room is positioned to the left of the hall, where it has a window to the front and French windows to the rear. “I love this room as I can sit in here and look over the garden, where I have a wildlife pond,” the owner says. “In the summer, I like to keep the doors open as much as possible.” The sitting room adjoins the dining room, which has a bay window also overlooking the garden. This is a superb place for dinner parties and Sunday lunches. “The dining room is next to the kitchen, which works very well – and the kitchen itself is a good size,” he observes. “There is huge potential, however, for possibly opening up the rooms at the back of the house here to create one much bigger, modern kitchen dining room.”
MATURE GARDEN
The first floor of the property is reached via a staircase from the hall in the main house. Here there are four bedrooms and a sizeable family bathroom. “The master bedroom is a particularly good size and is positioned at the front of the house,” he says. “It has a very large built-in wardrobe and a very generous en suite bathroom.” The garden, which is filled with fruit trees, including varieties of apple, plum and pear, has also given them great pleasure. “We also grow soft fruit here and so have an abundance of all kinds of produce to eat and make jam with.”
LOVELY LOCATION
With access to good schools, shops, supermarkets and train stations, the location of the Tattenhoe property has been ideal. “There are some lovely walks from here, including Tattenhoe and Emerson Valley parks, with their lakes, and through beautiful woods,” he says. “We can also walk to a nice pub for lunch.” Now downsizing, the owner admits he will miss all the very flexible space provided by the house. “It has worked very well for us at different times over the years and I have really grown to love it,” he admits. “We have had some wonderful occasions here too, from my mother’s 90th birthday to family gatherings. Now it could be perfect for another family with their own lifestyle requirements.”
