5 Bedroom detached house Colindale Street, Milton Keynes £650,000

With views out over a protected green, and the Ouzel Valley Park beyond, the impressive house on Colindale Street benefits from a truly special and rare Milton Keynes setting

On summer days, Dennis and Kelly savour the abundance of greenery as they look out from the front of their house. During the autumn months, they watch the changing colours of the leaves on the trees and consider whether to head off on a long walk along the river. “It takes just two minutes for us to walk across the green and into the park, which runs alongside the River Ouzel,” Dennis explains. “From there you can walk for miles and miles and it feels like you are in the heart of the countryside. It is great for running, cycling and dog walking – you go from one gated field to the next. It is hard to believe you are also so close to the centre of Milton Keynes and to shops, schools and everything else you need.”

SPACIOUS HOME
The couple bought their beautiful, five-bedroom house when it was newly built 17 years ago. Since then they have maintained it to an exceptionally high standard and as such it retains its contemporary, immaculate finish. “Although the incredible location was extremely appealing to us, we also loved the house,” Dennis recalls. “It was a very good size, with large rooms and a three-storey layout that has been ideal for us over the years as the children were growing up. It has been perfect for special occasions and family gatherings, providing us with lots of room for everyone to congregate as well as for each of the children to have their own large bedrooms and private space.”
HAPPY TIMES
With an abundance of kerb appeal, the detached property is double-fronted, with bay windows and steps leading up to an elegant front door. The entrance hall gives on to all the main accommodation, including the capacious drawing room, which spans the entire depth of the house on the right-hand side. This gorgeous room has a bay window to the front and French windows to the rear. “This is a lovely room at Christmas time when the house is often full of people. In the summer, it is nice to be able to wander out into the garden from here,” he observes. “The dining room, another great space when we have friends and family over, is also to the front of the house. I like to sit in there while we are eating and look out over the green.”
STYLISH KITCHEN
The long kitchen, which adjoins the utility room, is at the back of the house and, like the drawing room, has French windows on to the garden. This has recently been refitted by the couple and today has a chic, minimal style, with high gloss units and a central island and breakfast bar. “We have enjoyed having a separate kitchen and dining room, but new owners may wish to look into removing the wall between them to create one large space,” Dennis agrees. “We have also considered extending out across the back of the house, between the kitchen and drawing room. This would connect these two spaces and make even more family living space.”
FAMILY LIVING
There is a ground-floor cloakroom, while the bedrooms and bathrooms are all arranged across the top two storeys of the property. “The master bedroom and our en-suite shower room are on the first floor,” Dennis explains. “There is another large bedroom, which one of our children had, plus a family bathroom and a smaller room that we have arranged as an office, but which someone else might like to use as a bedroom. The final two bedrooms, which are also a very good size, are on the top floor, together with a shower room. This arrangement was ideal for our other two children.”
BEST OF ALL WORLDS
Indeed, the layout of the house worked well as the children grew up and became teenagers. Superfast broadband has made it easy to work from home when necessary and excellent schools are all within walking distance. “This is a great place for children and teenagers as it is so easy to walk or cycle everywhere, as well as to get to shops, leisure facilities and good transport connections, ” Dennis says. “We have the best of all worlds here and finding somewhere in a similar location is going to be a challenge.” Now downsizing, the couple are eager to find a new home, where they can still enjoy green views and proximity to leafy walks, while also being on the doorstep of essential amenities. “We love this house and will miss the space, but more than anything we will miss the location,” he admits. “There really is nowhere else quite like it.”
