5 Bedroom detached house Selworthy, Furzton £775,000

Within just a few minutes of the lake, the substantial, detached house on Selworthy enjoys excellent space and a good-sized garden in a tranquil yet very convenient location

Stepping out from their front door, the owners of Selworthy can be at picturesque Furzton Lake in just a few minutes. Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac, their beautiful home offers the careful lifestyle balance they were seeking when they moved into Milton Keynes from a more rural location back in 2012. “We had teenage children at the time and wanted to be closer to school, leisure facilities, the stadium, shops, pubs, the station and everything else they (and we) were keen to be able to get to without driving,” she recalls. “Where we are now is just perfect because we are five minutes from everything and yet, because of our proximity to the lake, it does also have something of a countryside feel. We see a variety of bird life in the garden and as you approach the lake there are ducks, herons and swans. The Parks Trust keeps the whole area looking beautiful and ensures wildlife habitats are maintained and protected”

MODERN LIVING
Dating back to the 1990s, the five-bedroom house was originally – like all the other individual, unique homes on the cul-de-sac – a self-build design. The current owners, who are only the second set of people ever to live there, have enhanced, extended and upgraded it over the past 13 years. “We have modernised it throughout,” she explains. “The next owners would not have to do anything at all unless they wished to change anything to suit their own tastes.”
INTERIOR DESIGN
The ground floor of the property was extended to create a garden room, which now forms part of a fabulous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. There is also a spacious, separate sitting room downstairs, as well as a cloakroom and access to the double garage, where there is a utility area. “We had a new kitchen and bathrooms fitted; all the windows and doors were replaced; we had Karndean flooring laid downstairs and new carpets upstairs,” she adds. “The central heating and boiler were upgraded, we added attractive, new radiators downstairs and we now have electrical garage doors.” With modern-style, internal wooden doors and an airy, neutral décor, the property now has a bright, contemporary feel throughout.
GORGEOUS GARDEN ROOM
The stylish kitchen, with its grey and white, handless units, Corian work surfaces, ceramic hob and integrated appliances, including an oven, coffee machine and microwave, is very much the beating heart of the home. “This open-plan space is wonderful for family life and entertaining,” she observes. “There is a comfortable seating area and then a table and chairs in the garden room, which means you can chat to people while you are cooking. It’s also very flexible. We currently use the garden room as a dining space but in the summer I quite like to move everything round so we can sit and look outside from the comfortable chairs. When the weather is warm, it is also nice to keep the doors open and the garden becomes like an extension to the house.” The garden room is her favourite place in the house, she admits. “It is so bright and peaceful – I love to sit and read in there. My husband likes the sitting room. He finds it a relaxing place to listen to music or watch television.”
IDEAL FOR WORK
All five double bedrooms and the family bathroom are situated on the first floor of the house. One of these is currently used as a study. “My husband says it is a perfect space to work from at home,” she says. “He also finds it easy because we have BT Full Fibre with ultrafast speeds of up to 900Mbps.” She continues: “The accommodation upstairs is very flexible – we have even had it arranged as three bedrooms and two studies in the past. There is plenty of space to use as you wish depending on your own needs. The bedrooms all have fitted wardrobes and room for children to have desks, televisions and everything else they need. The master bedroom has an en suite.”
PERFECT PLACE
Now downsizing as their children have all grown up and left home, the owners will miss both the beautiful home they have created and its exceptional location. “It was exactly what we were looking for at the time but it has now outgrown us,” she says. “We love living here – we are central enough to cycle or scooter into town and we have all the amenities we need around us. At the same time, it is quiet and private. We will also miss being so close to the lake, where it is lovely to walk, especially with children – in addition to the friendly, family pub, there is now also a high-end Italian restaurant there.” She adds: “This has been a perfect home for us for many years and it could now be ideal for someone else too.”
