This detached family home located on a prestigious no-through road in Ascot. Tucked away and surrounded by mature leafy gardens, the impressive detached house enjoys exceptional privacy, as well as generous family living space and a beautiful garden.
Long summer afternoons whiled away in the sunshine and serenity of the beautiful garden and Christmas dinners spent gathered around the table with family and friends –
Woodlands Lodge has been a veritable haven to its current owners. Nestled in leafy surroundings on a private road, the five to six-bedroom house has given them all the peace and tranquillity they were seeking while also proving to be a great family home and magnificent place to entertain. “We were initially drawn to it because of its superb setting,” one of them recalls. “Because it is on a private, unmade road, we knew it would be a very safe place for our young children to grow up. Yet at the same time it was a very convenient location, within easy reach of everything we needed.”
SPACIOUS AND BRIGHT
The owners bought Woodlands Lodge in 2005 and began work on it not long after. The property was renovated and extended to give them bright living spaces to meet their own requirements. “We worked our way through the whole place – from top to bottom,” he says. “We redid the plumbing, heating, electrics, bathrooms and kitchen, and we redecorated throughout. We created a lovely kitchen breakfast room and redesigned the whole house to make it much more practical for daily life. We wanted to ensure that everyone was able to have their own space but there was also plenty of room to be together and for entertaining.”
FAMILY AND FRIENDS
The attractive house is gated and sits in a plot of half an acre. It is entered via a central reception hall, which leads to all the main ground-floor accommodation. To the right is the long drawing room, which spans the whole depth of the house and has French windows on to the garden at one end and a bay window at the other. “This is a very large room, with lots of space for friends and family when they visit,” he says. “We have a big family and always encouraged the children to bring their friends home.”
RELAXING AT HOME
The kitchen breakfast room has also been at the heart of family life. Here there is a stylish Sheraton kitchen, with white high-gloss units and black marble work surfaces. A creatively designed peninsula offers space for casual dining at the breakfast bar but there is also ample room for a dining table and sofa. “There are bi-folding doors that can be pulled right back on to the garden in the summer months. This is a room where we tend to spend much of our daily lives but also entertain friends on less formal occasions.” The kitchen adjoins a utility room, which in turn opens on to the garden. Also downstairs are a dining room, family room, study and shower room. “We have enjoyed having a more formal dining room and do use it frequently,” he observes. “The study is a great space for working from home but also has its own front door and a spiral staircase up to the room above the garage.”
VERSATILE SPACE
This incredibly flexible part of the house could be ideal for a nanny or au pair. Equally it could suit someone eager to have a completely separate space for working from home or could be perfect for a family with older children seeking space for a teenagers’ den. “Because of the downstairs shower room, it could even become something of a self-contained annexe, with a bedroom upstairs,” he adds. The main bedrooms at Woodlands Lodge are all on the first floor. The master bedroom is part of a stunning suite, which also includes a dressing room and en suite shower room. “There is also a Juliet balcony in here with French windows that can be opened up on to the view over the garden.” One other bedrooms also has an en suite shower room and there is a family bathroom and a family shower room. “Again, this worked very well for us as our children were able to have their own bathrooms and there was space for guests too.”
PEACE AND PRIVACY
The gorgeous gardens have been the backdrop to many special occasions, from barbecues to summer parties. The family has also enjoyed walking in nearby Swinley Forest and at Ascot Heath whe
