4 Bedroom detached house Midland Drive, Broughton £540,000

The immaculate, detached, four-bedroom house has been an exceptional home in an outstanding location, with everything a family might possibly require close by

On sunny days they go to the park or out into the countryside and when the weather is poor they go to the cinema, theatre or Snozone. One of the great joys of living in Broughton, Milton Keynes, has been having everything they need and enjoy right on the doorstep, according to one of the owners of the house on Midland Drive. The family moved to the property from Luton 13 years ago and since then have relished everything life here has offered them. “Whenever we meet up with family or friends, everyone always comes here because there is so much to choose from,” she says. “Everything we enjoy doing is within five or 10 minutes of the house – and there are lots of things within walking distance. Living here has been perfect for us.”

PLOT AND POSITION
The four-bedroom, Redrow Homes house first caught their eye after they decided to move to a bigger property. “Our children were moving up to high school and we knew there was a good variety of schools for them.” The couple bought the Midland Drive house off-plan, having been enticed by its position, layout and proportions. “It was a large plot and it was set on a corner, which we liked,” she recalls. “We were also drawn to it because it had an additional reception room downstairs. Initially, this was a family room but in recent times it has become my husband’s office.”
NATURAL LIGHT
Set behind a neat hedge, the double-front house is entered via a central front door. This opens into a hall, with the office or family room to the right. This good-sized space could also make a great snug, teenagers’ den or hobby space. “Having this additional room has been everything we hoped it would be,” the current owner observes. Opposite the office is the long sitting room, which has ample room for family relaxation and entertaining friends and family on occasion. The sitting room has a window at either, ensuring it is always filled with streaming sunlight. “Most of the rooms in this house are double aspect – it is really bright throughout,” she adds.
INDOOR-OUTDOOR
Decorated in largely neutral shades to enhance the natural light, the house features carefully chosen, subtle hints of blue and grey colour here and there. This contributes to its calm ambience, as well as the sense of flow from one space to the next. A downstairs cloakroom leads from the hall and, at the back of the house, the sizeable kitchen dining room opens up onto the garden. “This is a good family room with space for a dining table and chairs, as well as the central island and breakfast bar,” she observes. French windows open onto the patio, which in turn gives on to the lovely lawned garden, creating a sense of indoor-outdoor living. “I love the garden and spend as much time out there as possible,” she admits. “It wraps round to the side and is a really nice space that is not overlooked.”
SUMMER DAYS
Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, two of which are double-aspect and particularly good sizes. The master bedroom overlooks the garden and has an en suite shower room. Both the second bedroom and the master bedroom have built-in storage. The family bathroom is also on the first floor. It has been easy to accommodate friends and family overnight at the house, as well as for day events. “We have had quite a few parties here and often have barbecues in the summer months,” she says.
IDEAL HOME
On fine days, they also like to go off to the Ouzel Valley Park or Willen Lake. “When we arrived here, we all bought bikes and we really enjoyed going off on cycle rides, as well as walks,” she says. “We are in a very central location and with all the Redways it is easy to get to places quickly without having to go on the roads.” Now moving because they are downsizing, the owner agrees they will miss both the house and its superb location. “It is very hard to imagine being anywhere else where you can get from one side of the city to the other so easily,” she adds. “This place really has been ideal for us.”
