5 Bedroom detached house Freyberg Drive, AYLESBURY £650,000

With its generous space and sunny garden, the house on Freyberg Drive in Aylesbury has been a magnificent place to relax and spend time with family and friends

On a summer’s afternoon, there is nothing the owners of the house on Freyberg Drive, in Aylesbury, enjoy more than sitting down to afternoon tea and cake in the shade of their covered seating area in their sunny garden. They love the location of their home, which provides them with exceptional convenience to everything they need, as well as the tranquillity they were seeking some 12 years ago when they first moved here. “We have been very happy here,” she says. “It has been a good location for us – we are close to our daughter and have lots of green open space around us, where it is nice to go for a walk every day. The size of the house has also been perfect. It has been easy for us to have friends and family to stay here.”

ALL SEASONS
Completed shortly before they saw it, the handsome, five-bedroom house was brand new when they bought it. “It was almost finished – they just had to build the garage,” she recalls. “We really liked the fact that it was a four-bedroom house, but it only had two storeys. The layout was exactly what we wanted.” Since then, they have made no substantial changes to the house, but they have redecorated here and there to bring their own style to the interior and have ensured it has been well maintained as necessary. “It is a lovely, light house,” she observes. “It is also warm in winter and cool in the summer, which has been wonderful this year in particular.”
HOME PRODUCE
The biggest changes to the house have been the development of the garden. A blank canvas when they arrived, this has flourished under their care and has given them great pleasure. “This year it has been a little hot, but we usually enjoy growing all kinds of fruit, vegetables and flowers. We have apple and pear trees and often grow melons, lettuce and sunflowers too.” She adds: “In the spring and summer, we like to spend as much time as possible outside. In the colder months, the sitting room is cosy and warm.”
FOND MEMORIES
With a small garden and a driveway that can accommodate some three cars to the front, the red-brick property has an integral double garage. The main reception accommodation fans off from a central entrance hall, which offers a friendly, airy welcome to visitors and gives access to a downstairs cloakroom. To the left of the hall is the formal dining room, where many happy, celebratory meals have taken place. This opens into the sitting room, which can also be accessed from the hall. “We have two daughters who often come here with their families and it is nice to be able to accommodate everyone. We can seat at least 10 people around the table in the dining room for special occasions,” she says. French windows from the sitting room can be opened up on fine days to give easy access to the terrace and garden.
GARDEN VIEWS
To the other side of the house, is the generous kitchen breakfast room. This is another well-designed space. At one end, the abundance of cabinets and work surface areas means there is ample space for food preparation and storage. At the other end of the room, the current owners have arranged a breakfast table, where they can sit down to casual meals and watch the birds out in the garden. A second set of French windows here allows them to enjoy a cool breeze during hotter spells. “This is where we like to sit when it is just the two of us,” she says.
AMPLE SPACE
All five bedrooms are positioned on the first floor. The generous master bedroom is double aspect and has the luxury of an en suite bathroom. A guest room at the other end of the house has an en suite shower room, and there is a family bathroom. One of the three smaller bedrooms is currently arranged as a study. “We have had lots of space here to enjoy,” she says. “But (subject to the relevant planning permissions) new owners could consider extending further. There could be scope to build into the double garage, for example.” Now relocating, the owners agree on what they will miss most. “We love the whole house,” she admits. “But most of all, we will miss the garden and sitting outside having afternoon tea together.”
Outside
The house on Freyberg Drive benefits from a driveway that can accommodate about three cars. There is also a double garage. To the rear, there is a large, enclosed garden, with a terrace, shed, seating area and kitchen garden. The large lawn would be ideal for a family with children.
