6 Bedroom detached house Broadway Avenue, Milton Keynes £575,000

Set in desirable Giffard Park, the house on Broadway Avenue offers substantial family living space and is in an excellent location for access to parks, lakes, schools and shops

As soon as the current owner of the house on Broadway Avenue set eyes on the property 15 and a half years ago, she could see the incredible potential it held for significant extension. Already encompassing four bedrooms and generous living space, the detached home also lent itself well to an attic conversion. “There was ample space for going up into the attic – it was simply a question of how it was carried out. It was important to me that it all blended well with the original building and so it took a while to find the right person to carry out the work. The builders did a really good job and the extra space has been wonderful.”

SUNNY DAYS
Built in the 1980s, the Broadway Avenue house has a modern design and sits on a generous plot, with off-road parking to the front and a generous garden to the rear. The rear garden is also south-facing and very private as it is not overlooked. A few years after extending up into the attic, she also decided to increase the ground-floor living space by building out from the kitchen and study. Fondly referred to as the sun room, this sizeable space has a vaulted ceiling, bi-folding doors and ample room for family dining and relaxation, as well as entertaining. “It is superb for indoor-outdoor living in warm weather – we have had some fabulous summer parties and barbecues here,” she agrees. “This is also where we watch television, have our meals and spend most of our time as a family. In fact, we tend to live in here!”
EXCELLENT LAYOUT
The red-brick property is entered from the side via a reception hall leading to a downstairs cloakroom and the sitting room. The sitting room is a good-sized space, which was ideal when the children were younger and the family wished to spread out.The sitting room gives onto the study, which in turn leads into the sun room. “The study would have been the original dining room, but I work from home and this is the obvious place for me to be,”
BRIGHT INTERIOR
The whole property has been kept light and airy, with white walls and ceilings complemented wherever possible by natural light. The kitchen, which adjoins the sun room as well as the study, features gleaming high-gloss units finished with beautiful black granite work surfaces and built-in appliances. The back of the garage is used a s a utility space and now boasts French windows onto the large terrace. The front of the garage space is currently used as a gym.
MASTER SUITE
The central landing on the first floor of the house leads to the four original bedrooms. Three of these have built-in storage and one is used as a second office. Each of these rooms has room for a double bed. The family bathroom, which has been replaced, serves all these bedrooms. Stairs from the first-floor landing flow smoothly on up to the level above, where the master bedroom, a shower room and another room are all positioned. “We have this entire floor as the master suite. The second room up here has fitted wardrobes and is used as a dressing room, but could be used as a bedroom. Both rooms have skylight windows.”
EASY LIVING
Now relocating, the owner says she will miss both her beautiful home and its location when she leaves. “It is just a really easy house to live in,” she says. “It is ideal for the city centre, schools, local shops and Newport Pagnell. We can also be at the M1 within 10 minutes. I will definitely miss the convenience of having everything so close when we move. It has been a very good home for us in the time we have been here.”
SETTING THE SCENE
The generous, south-facing garden is maintained regularly by a gardener. There is a large terrace, with plenty of space for outside dining and relaxation, and a good-sized lawn for children to play out on. To the front of the house, there is off-road parking and access to the garage, which is currently used as a gym and utility space
